For her participation in Melanchotopia, Van de Ven defies the conventional way of presenting photography in an art setting and re-enacts her photojournalistic approach by inserting a series of her photographs in Rotterdam’s local newspaper De Havenloods. Published every Wednesday, starting from 31 August 2011. For 12 weeks, readers and the local audience are confronted with a different take on the media.
Upon request by the editors of De Havenloods, the images 07, 09 and 10 from the original series have been replaced with a different entry. Below you can view the original series, and until 31 December 2011 the original series is also on view at Witte de With, in the Melanchotopia epicenter (3rd floor).
For those collecting the series, we’re looking into the possibility of making the original photographs 07, 09 and 10 available upon request and following payment of production costs. Should you be interested, please send an email to [email protected].
Van de Ven will also produce the fourth artist book of Witte de With publishers’ Rotterdam series that cast a view on the city of Rotterdam through the medium of photography. For her publication, Van de Ven decided to mirror Rotterdam and its socio-political development as part of a global international phenomenon.
