Dr. Adriaan Rademaker is a Lecturer in Greek Language and Literature at Leiden University. His research and teaching focuses on the analysis of the cohesion and function of Greek literary texts as manifestations of Ancient Greek public discourse and culture. Research topics include the persuasive use of Ancient Greek value terms in a variety of literary genres (tragedy, Aristophanic comedy, historiography and Plato – see especially ‘Sophrosyne and the Rhetoric of Self-Restraint, Leiden, 2005′), and the study of the linguistic features and the persuasive function of Ancient Greek prose texts (historiography, oratory). Currently, he is working on a study of Ancient Greek thought on language and discourse in the fifth century BCE (NWO Research project ‘The Limits of Language’, led by Prof. Ineke Sluiter). As a teacher at Leiden University and elsewhere, Adriaan Rademaker teaches a broad range of subjects in the field of Greek language and linguistics, including a.o. Greek Language and grammar, Greek Linguistics, Attic Drama (Tragedy and Comedy), Epic poetry (Homer) and Historiography (Thucydides).
