Ayumi Paul is a violinist, composer, improvisator and artist who lives and works in Berlin. She embodies a genre transcending practice commited to creating experiences of music and sound through site specific performances and concert programs which engage process, flux and social context. Trained as a classical violinist at Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin and Indiana University in USA she gave her solo debut at the Berlin Philharmonic in 2003 and continued to perform at major concert halls before moving towards developing her own projects. Recent projects include I HEAR LIGHT (sound installation/performance) for Kunsthalle Osnabrück; To the birds (object based concert installation) in collaboration with illustrator Sarah Illenberger at Villa Lena; Forgiveness (co-direction/composition/ performance) with dancer Iyar Elezra; premieres of solo compositions written for her by Elliott Sharp and Richard Reed Parry, and concerts with multi media artist Achim Mohné, with whom she develops music for violin and turntables. She has collaborated with Ari Benjamin Meyers since 2001 and will perform his new work Solo for Ayumi at the gallery Esther Schipper in July 2017.
