Benedict Seymour is a writer, artist, and filmmaker. He was deputy editor of Mute Magazine from 2003–08. As part of The London Particular (with David Panos) he made two pioneering films on gentrification and regeneration in London — The London Particular (2003) and The Occupation (2001) — and he has written extensively on themes of looting or non-reproduction in contemporary capitalism. His musical projects Antifamily and Petit Mal continued self-critical artistic exploration of a financialized creative economy. He produces albums and soundtracks with Melanie Gilligan — Crisis in the Credit System (2008), Popular Unrest (2014), and The Common Sense (2016) — and his music has featured in several films, including Moderation (Anja Kirschner, 2016). He is currently working on the music for an opera film reimagining Thomas Mann’s Doctor Faustus. His film Dead the Ends (2016) ‘non-reproduces’ Chris Marker’s Le jetée and was screened at the ICA in 2015. He lectures in fine art on the MFA critical studies program at Goldsmiths, London.
