Billy Bultheel is a Belgian composer and performance artist based in Berlin. Bultheel’s musical practice is occupied with notions of spatiality and theatricality. His music develops often as a spatial principal instead of a temporal one, creating sonorous landscapes that escape conventions. Combining research on renaissance polyphony and algorithmic composition, he has developed a rich musical vocabulary which is often applied to live performances. Most recently he collaborated with the artist Anne Imhof, for whom he composed the music for the operas ANGST (2016) and FAUST (2017).
