Catherine David is a French art historian, curator and museum director. David had served as the third director of Witte de With between 2002 and 2004 and is currently deputy director of the National Museum of Modern Art (Musée National d'Art Moderne) at the Centre Georges Pompidou. From 1994 to 1997 she was the artistic director of Documenta X in Kassel in Germany and since 1998 she has directed the long-term project Contemporary Arab Representations, which began at the Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona. She was curator at the Musée National d’Art Moderne, at the Centre Georges Pompidou and at the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, all in Paris, during the 1980s and 1990s, where she organized several exhibitions. She also curated the film and video program of the 1999 XXIV Biennial of São Paulo. She currently is a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin.
