Dirk Bell (b. 1969, Germany) lives and works in Berlin. His work takes a range of seemingly contradictory visual signs and symbols – from Minimal Art, Jugendstil, Symbolism etc. – and incorporates them in analytical, ambivalent and critical paintings, drawings and installations. His most recent show at BQ in Berlin was at the beginning of this year, SCHÖN UND GUT (2013).Last year, he realized an exhibition at Sadie Coles in London, SOFT IS HARD (Work) (2012) and in 2011, he did his most recent show at The Modern Institute, Glasgow. Other selected solo exhibitions include Retour, Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich (2011); MADE IN GERMANY, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead; 7 x 14, Staatliche Kunsthalle, Baden-Baden (2009).
