Jef Cornelis

Jef Cornelis (b. 1941, Belgium) is a filmmaker who has worked as executor, director and scriptwriter for Belgian public broadcasting corporation VRT. Over 35 years Cornelis accomplished an impressive body of work considered of great importance to the history of contemporary art. It comprises over 200 titles researching the language of television and its relationship to video art, documentary and the reading of history from the present. Among his work are the following films: Picasso in Paris (1966); documenta 4 (1968); Marcel Broodthaers: Museum for 17th Century Art (1969); Daniel Buren (1971, 1986); Dutch Architecture, 1920 to 1940 (1971); Europalia: Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam ’60 – ’70 (1971); documenta 5 (1972); Art as Criticism – When is Art Not Critical? (1973); The Paris Biennial (1985); OMA: Rem Koolhaas (1985); Dames en Heren, Jan Fabre (1990); The Music Box (1993); Les Vacances de Monsieur Magritte (1994); Brussel, scherven van geluk (1995); and C’est moi que je peins (1995).
