Wang Jinsong (b.1963, China) is an artist who currently lives and works in Beijing. Jinsong graduated from Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou in 1987. He was trained as a traditional Chinese ink painter, while over the years the artist’s oeuvre has expanded to include oil painting, photography, and video. Wang Jinsong’s work examines the implications of a range of government policies on contemporary Chinese society, and he was among the first group of young artists to produce works critical of the political situation in China in a style that became known as cynical realism.
Wang Jinsong’s works have been exhibited in art institutions including amongst others, Ludwig Museum, Cologne, Germany; Donghui Company, Shenzhen, China; Asia Art Museum, Fukuoka, Japan; Queensland Museum, Brisbane, Australia; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA; International Centre of Photography, New York, NY; Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangdong, China; Today Art Museum, Beijing, China.
