Joachim Koester

Joachim Koester (b. 1962, Denmark) is a conceptual artist based in Copenhagen. He studied in the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen. Mostly working with video, text, photography and installation, Koester makes use of historical documentary material to create a fictional narrative around it that weaves through his exhibition. Koester’s work centers around the theme of the unknown, in its scientific, metaphysical, and historical variety. His recent solo exhibitions were held at Palais de Tokyo (2013); Maybe One Must Begin with Some Particular Places, SMAK, Ghent (2012); MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge, Massachusetts (2011); Paris Museo Tamayo, Mexico City (2010); Kestnergesellschaft, Hanover (2010); Turker Art Museum, Finland (2009) and Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2007). His work has also been included in numerous group shows, including Altermodern, Tate Triennial, Tate Britain, London (2009), Venice Biennial (2005), Gwangju Biennale (1995), Manifesta 7, Trentino (2008) and Documenta X, Kassel (1997).
