Karl Holmqvist (b. 1964, Sweden) lives and works in Berlin. He graduated with a BA in Literature and Linguistics from the Stockholm University (1987). Holmqvist works with the mediums of video, installation, artist’s books and live performance, often with a view on spoken and written language and different aspects of human communication. Working since the early 1990s some selected solo exhibitions include Give Poetry A Try, Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2013); WORDS ARE PEOPLE, Alex Zachary Peter Currie, New York (2012); OFF WITH THEIR ‘EADS, White Cubicle, London (2009). His selected group shows include What Would Thomas Bernhard Do?, Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna (2013); Ecstatic Alphabets-Heaps Of Language, Museum of Modern Art, New York (2012); and IllumiNATIONS, The 54th Venice Biennial, Venice (2011). Some of his most recent artist’s books are; ‘K (2012), What’s My Name? (2009), and I ON A LION IN ZION (2005).
