Keith Farquhar (b. 1969, the United Kingdom) lives and works in Edinburgh. He holds a M.A. in Fine Art, Goldsmiths College, London, and B.A. (Hons) Fine Art Sculpture, Edinburgh College of Art. Farquhar’s work makes use of various production-line outputs in order to address the viewer from within the day-to-day. Through his use and misuse of current technologies and the appropriation of existing artworks he develops the proposition of the readymade and strips gesture to a state of raw economy: “this is the thing as it comes to us”. Whiteboard markers, the folded on-sale garment and flat-packed point-of-display are all mediums utilized in previous re-workings of inherited visual effects. His solo exhibitions include, Ocean Terminal, Leslie Fritz Gallery, New York (2013); ABSTRACT PRINTINGS, New Jerseyy, Basel (2012) and More Nudes in Colour, Studio Voltaire, London – Focal Point, Southend and Tramway, Glasgow(2010-11). Some of his selected group exhibitions include, Holes in the Walls, Early Works 1948-2013, Kunsthalle, Fribourg (2013); Dystopia, CAPC the Museum of Contemporary Art, Bordeaux (2011); and ‘X’, Gio Marconi, Milan (2011).
