Patrick Bernier & Olive Martin (artists, live and work in Nantes) first met at the Ecole des Beaux-arts de Paris in the late 90s and have collaborated for over a decade to develop a varied body of work combining writing, installation, performance, photography and film. Concerned with issues of migration, they recognized an irony in the rapid expansion of copyright and intellectual property law in the digital era while the rights of immigrants and freedom of movement diminished under French and EU laws. Their performance “X. and Y. versus France, The Case For A Legal Precedent” has been presented over 40 times since 2008 in festivals and art centers in Europe like Centre Pompidou (Paris), Frac Alsace (Strasbourg), Belluard Festival (Fribourg), Kaaï Theater (Bruxelles), Serralvès Foundation (Porto), Subversive Messe (Linz), among others.
