Otto Snoek (b. 1966, Rotterdam) has been active as documentary photographer since 1992, working independently as well as on commissions for various newspapers and magazines. In 1997, he commenced work on his long term photo-essay about Rotterdam, titled Hometown. His independent work has been presented in the Netherlands and abroad, featuring in the Fotofestival Naarden (2001) and the Center for Visual Arts (Centrum voor Beeldende Kunst/CBK), Rotterdam (2005). In 2005, Snoek participated in the group exhibition Populism (co-curated by Nicolaus Schafhausen), comprising parallel presentations in CAC Vilnius, National Museet (Oslo), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) and the Frankfurter Kunstverein. In 2007, his work was shown at the Historical Museum Rotterdam, and Fotofestival Mannheim/Ludwigshafen/Heidelberg. His photo-essays include Rotterdam Centraal (2001), commissioned by Stichting Foto-opdrachten Rotterdam (Foundation Photo Assignments Rotterdam); Delirious Utrecht (2005), commissioned by Stichting Foto-opdrachten Utrecht (Foundation Photo Assignments Utrecht); Comfortzone 1 (2007), commissioned by the Amsterdam municipal archive; and most recently Rotterdam Port Experience and Futureland (2008/2009), both commissioned by the Rotterdam Harbor company.
