Salomon Kroonenberg (1947) is emeritus professor of geology at Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. He holds a PhD from the University of Amsterdam and worked ten years as a geologist in Suriname, Swaziland and Colombia. From 1982 onward he was professor of geology at the Agricultural University Wageningen, and he moved to Delft in 1996. He has written several non-specialist books, including Why hell stinks of sulfur on geology and mythology of the underground (2011, English translation by Reaktion Books, London, 2013).
