For the third installment of the In Light Of 25 Years project, Dutch artist Wineke Gartz created two collages combining documents from Witte de With’s archive, images of her own work, and other sourced material. 000 VA Auroral Blue transforms the archive into an image stream rather than an organized system.
During this event, Gartz talks about her work and the many sources she drew from, ranging from letters by Paul Thek, stills from works by Dan Graham and images taken of her own previous video installations as they were being installed. In a state of constant transformation and expansion, the work of Gartz is not easily categorized or subjected to a linear reading. Join us for an informal presentation of her work and creative process.
Following the talk, we will screen Dan Graham’s seminal video essay Rock My Religion (1982–84, 55:27 min.), in which Graham focuses on the social and sexual origins and implications of rock and roll, interpreting the rituals of rock and punk culture as forms of religious practice.
000 VA Auroral Blue is on view day and night in the ground floor gallery of Witte de With until 10 May 2015.
