A visual artist and poet, Vicuña is considered one of the pioneers of conceptual art in Chile, focusing her practice on poetic performances, oil paintings, sculptures, and videos. She majored in art at the Universidad de Chile and holds a postgraduate degree from the Slade School of Fine Arts and University College in London. Vicuña founded a group of artists and poets called Tribu No (No Tribe), and was co-founder of Artists for Democracy in London, an organization of artists dedicated to making projects in solidarity with the then so-called ‘Third World’. In 1975, she moved to Colombia where she continued her studies of popular indigenous art and collaborated with the Corporación Colombiana de Teatro. She was professor of Art History in the Fundación Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano and of Contemporary Latin American Poetry in the Fundación El Arte of the Universidad Libre de Bogotá.
